Nature inspired, AEDM 2012

This will be my first time participating in the Art Every Day Month  (AEDM), for the entire month of November. My goal is to create something every day, to make time for art big or small. AEDM info page

My inspiration  came from a morning hike along a path where my eye was drawn to a grouping of bright green leaves in a neat pattern amongst dirt debris and brown leaves.

Day 2

#aedm2012

Take a hike, really!

For my birthday  I wanted to spend the day out enjoying the fall weather with my family. Lucky for me there were no complaints when I mentioned a scenic hike at Valley Forge National Historical Park, a great place to explore and a  short drive from where we live. So we took a hike – this was our day:

After looking around the visitor center, I managed to convince these two to get off the wall and start walking!Image

Taking in the view near the monument.

A quick snapshot of an old barn/farm house we passed which looks haunted..  Its probably the sun glare.

My daughter had to stop and  greet the fuzzy caterpillar, this was the second time she spotted one.

Made our way to Washington’s Headquarters, which was our last stop before heading home. I think she is learning a little something about George Washington.

Old things.

All good things must come to an end and it was a very good day.

Scattered creativity

Trying to accomplish my work, I was eager to complete sketches for a project. As my day progressed my focus seemed a little scattered I felt a jolt of inspiration and this is what happened:
I decided to finally paint over a new shirt that had dirt I couldn’t wash out. I came up with a simple design and using gold fabric craft paint, I painted over the trouble spots.

After a trip to the supermarket to buy only one item, I came across a bottle of vitamin E & coconut oil for $1. Bought it with the bright idea to make my own body lotion. So of course I mixed some up when I got home. Utilizing an empty lotion container, I mixed together, in equal parts, the oils, vaseline and left over sample of vanilla scented lotion. The result.

Needless to say I am still working on my sketches!

Veggie Art

My little urban garden oasis, growing some crazy shaped vegetables.  The small space produced, cucumbers, green beans, strawberries, melons, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, and herbs. Hope to extend my garden through the fall.

Summer sunrise

Beautiful view from the beach in Ocean City, MD. Eager to wake every morning to witness the beauty. Peace, happiness and inspiration, in the quiet of the morning. Now if only I can wake up early everyday with the same joy and eagerness to start the day. ImageImageImage

Unexpected blue in the familiar

Spent the day out with family, a spur of the moment change in plans led to some finds that caught my eye. Spotted this door at the playground, something I have passed many times before but never took notice. Love the color of this old door, the stone and touch of ivy.

Blue chair! I want this! I spotted the chair from a distance, should have taken a closer look. Image

Summer Creativity with Coffee Filters

A lazy summer day,  a box of art supplies an idea and a few fun hours spent being creative. A homemade wreath made from coffee filters, is a simple idea using a few supplies. From a distance you won’t notice this was made from coffee filters. My daughter had so much fun making this project.

All the supplies we used.

I decorated  the filters with markers  and my 7 year old used pencil crayon  which created a softer look. After coloring the filters we layered two filters together using a dab of glue in the center of one filter and layered the other filter on top with a little scrunching it looked more like a flower.

I used an old square cork board, and thumb tacks to hold each flower in place. We began to place our finished flower filters (not being too neat) covering entire cork board, next we attached  string  to the back of cork board to be hung on the door.

The end result

The finishing touch –  my daughter wrote the word summer in the center of the wreath. Now she has ideas for all the seasons and holidays, its never ending!

– Have fun creating your own!

Window painting

A different creative outlet for me,  having  accomplished various artistic jobs throughout the years, I never thought window painting would be one of them. Recently I had the opportunity to paint a  party theme on a pair of windows  at the Pizza Villa in  New Jersey.  I conducted a little research before I started, and was surprised to find out that acrylic paints work best. I thought painting on a window was going to be a challenge, but I took it slow and it worked out great. Going with what the owner wanted and sharing some of my own ideas this is what I painted.

It was fun to paint a window,  I would definitely do it again.

Great place and good food:  Pizza Villa is located  at 901 White Horse Pike, Haddon Twp, NJ 856-854-4400

Watercolor at the beach

As summer was winding down I spent a wonderful time in Ocean City, MD with family. I decided to take along my travel watercolor box that I was given at Xmas. The pretty little purple box which sat on my art desk  just begged to be opened, so I figured the beach would be a perfect place to try it out.  I enjoyed using the paints, it was easy to transport. I was able to accomplish some quick little sketches during my early morning walks, the beach is so inspiring. I enjoyed my time alone watching the beauty of the sunrise on the beach. I would have created more paintings but I was too  busy being a beach bum!

View of  Assawomen Bay..  (real name)  The vivid yellows n green in the marshy area caught my eye.
