Life in abstract

Every so often I like to change things up and create abstract art. I like the freedom and exploration of the process. The past few weeks I have been working on two mixed media paintings simultaneously. Working on these paintings felt like a tug of war, a love hate relationship, a labor of love with lots of juicy layers.

Blocks tumble

The process of cleaning and organizing my art space helped to unearth inspiration from previously created drawings. The dust cleared and the wheels began to turn, and the urge to work on multiple projects began. My creative blocks tumbled and crumbled in an instant…. I envision more cleaning in my future!

Days shift to nights

we try to hide

we blanket our fears

we are exposed

we wake

we begin to see clearly

The page is my friend

I try to uphold to a morning routine by carving out time for myself before the hectic throws of the day. My commitment to writing three long hand pages (morning pages) began many years ago when I read the book, The Artist Way, by Julia Cameron. The routine of writing everyday clears the mind, relieves stress and allows you to tap into your well of creativity on a regular basis.  My writing this morning inspired this doodle.

My sketch book, pencil, pen on paper.

Take flight

When the artwork was created, I let the brush and paint guide me. The pattern and color took shape on the canvas and I intuitively let the image come forth.  As I viewed the painting today for the first time in months, I understand the message. Today the image spoke to me.

Step out of the shadows, be light, take flight. You never know what you can achieve until you try!
